are all interconnected, all part of one universe, and that there is something much
bigger than us. Going into the mountains is a call to your soul, a journey of

Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is home to many legends; some are popular
while others are not-so-often repeated, like the one about Lord Kartik. Perched on a hilltop
near the village of Kanakchauri, Rudraprayag, the Kartik Swami temple is one of the most
prominent ones dedicated to Lord Shiva's son Lord Kartik, in the state. Dedicated to Lord
Shiva's elder son, Kartikeya, Kartik Swami is a temple of mystic ambiance and exquisite views.
The popular Hindu temple is perched on a hilltop at an elevation of 3050 m and
situated near Kanak Chauri Village on the Rudraprayag-Pokhari route in the district of
Rudraprayag of the state Uttarakhand. To reach the temple, one has to undergo a 3 km thrilling
trek that starts from Kanak Chauri Village. The route of the trek is rugged but it assures
astonishing verdure to relish the exquisiteness of nature.
Kartik Swami temple is dedicated to the elder son of Lord Shiva, Kartikeya, who offered his
bones as a testimony of his devotion to his father. It is believed that the incident took place
here. Lord Kartik Swami is also known as Kartik Murugan Swami in the southern part of India.
"Dhari Devi Temple” is a popular Shrine of Maa Dhari Devi, it is
located between Srinagar and Rudraprayag on the bank of River Alaknanada and can be reached
by a 1-km cement pathway. A revered temple, it is dedicated to Dhari Devi (a form of Goddess
Kali), who is considered to be the guardian deity of Uttarakhand and is worshipped as the
protector of the Char Dham. According to mythology, a severe flood once washed away a temple
and the idol of Dhari Devi was trapped against a rock near the Dharo village. The residents
claim to have heard wails and a divine voice directed them to install the idol there.
Local lore also has it that the idol of the deity changes appearance throughout the day - a
girl child in the morning, a young woman in the afternoon, and an old woman in the evening.
It is also said that Goddess Dhari Devi has two parts. Her body's upper half appeared at
Dhari Devi temple while her lower half appeared at Kalimath temple, where she is worshipped
as Maa Kali. According to the legend, Goddess Dhari Devi is worshiped in an open space,
there is no rooftop where the idol is kept. The reason behind this is that people believe
that Dhari Devi likes to sit in the open space. Every year on the occasion of Navratri
special worship is offered to Goddess Kaliasaur. People from far & near visit this sacred
haunt in great numbers to get the blessings of Goddess Kali. An ancient cave is also present
near the temple.
“Devprayag” is one of the confluences of the widely known Panch Prayag
where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers unite. Devprayag lies at the confluence of river
Alaknanda where it meets Bhagirathi and attains the form of the holy Ganges or Ganga thereon.
Thus it is also colloquially referred to as the birthplace of the Ganges and is the starting
point of the Panch Prayag Yatra. In Sanskrit, “Devaprayāga" translates to The Divine Confluence.
Traditionally, it is considered to be a place of significance in Hindu religion and mythology.
This sacred place attracts tourists from all over the world because of its scenic
beauty as well as religious significance. Devprayag is a small town in Tehri Garhwal district
belonging to the newly formed state of Uttarakhand in India. It has gained much popularity in
recent times for its spiritual and religious significance coming into prominence. With all the
coverage about its rich history and colorful past, Devprayag has grown from a pilgrimage halt in
a remote village to a municipality in recent times.
The presiding deity here is Tondeshwar
Mahadev and it is Lord Shiva who is worshiped in the form of his signature form, the Lingam. The
temple for the Tondeshwar Mahadev Lingam is situated just in front of the Sangam.
“Deoria Tal” also spelled as ‘Devaria’ or ‘Deoriya’ is a
pristine lake located about 3 km atop a hill from the villages of Mastura and Sari, on
Ukhimath-Chota road in Uttarakhand. The lake is situated at an altitude of 2,438 meters in
the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. Deoria Tal is surrounded by verdant forests
and offers refreshing views of snow-clad peaks at the backdrop. One can see the reflection
of the majestic Chaukhamba on the crystal clear waters of the lake which is an awe-inspiring
sight indeed.
Legend of Deoria Tal is known as the lake from where Lakshya asked Pandavas questions on
life. According to Mahabharat, Once when Pandavas were in the Banbasa fillings Thirsty and
tired Yudhisthira told Bhima to look for a place where they could bring water. Sahadev went
and tried to drink the water. At the time Yakshya stopped Sahadeva and asked him to answer
his questions which Sahadeva denied and thus died the very moment he tried to gulp water.
The same thing happened to Nakula, Arjuna, and Bhima respectively. Finally, when Yudhisthira
came, he answered all questions of Yakshya before drinking the water.
Happy with
Yudhisthira, Yakshya asked Yudhisthira to choose one of his brothers to be alive and
Yudhisthira choose Nakula. To Yakshyas bewilderment, Yudhisthira replied that though Bhima
is strong and Arjuna is the top in arrow shoot, he would choose Nakula to do just towards
their second (step) mother Madri.
Happy with the answer, Yakshya gives life to all four
Pandavas who were lying on the bank of the lake dead. Yakshya is the father of Yudhisthira.
Deoria lake maintains its purity and amazing beauty to date.
